Distress Ink Backgrounds with Distress Oxide Stamping

Hi there!

This week I have been playing around with distress inks and distress oxides.  I created two cards and a video to share with you today, both featuring blended distress ink backgrounds and Distress oxide stamping.

For the first background I blended distress inks in squeezed lemonade, carved pumpkin and candied apple. I blended out the colours on some Bristol Smooth card stock cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2 ". I kept blending the colours until I had a smooth transition between the colours.  I was also careful not to add too much colour, otherwise you wouldn't see my stamping.  I completed the blue tone background in the same way with distress ink colours in peacock feathers, mermaid lagoon and blueprint sketch.

For the stamping I used the floral images from the Altenew Forever and Always stamp set.  For the red toned card I used distress oxides in squeezed lemonade, carved pumpkin and candied apple. I inked up the floral image using all three colours in a way so that each colour would move once when stamped down. ie. candied apple on squeezed lemonade; squeezed lemonade on carved pumpkin; carved pumpkin on candied apple.  Before stamping down I used a mini mister to spray my stamp (to activate the distress oxide ie. cause it to oxidize) and then pressed the stamp firmly onto my background piece.

I did the same for the blue tone card only I used the distress oxides in peacock feathers, mermaid lagoon and blueprint sketch. For this card I used the other floral image in the same stamp set.  I made sure that peacock feathers would be stamped on blueprint sketch; blueprint sketch on mermaid lagoon; mermaid lagoon on peacock feathers. Next I sprayed each piece using my distress sprayer to create small droplets of water.  I dabbed off the droplets using a tissue. I kept doing this until I was happy withe the look of each panel. I then trimmed each panel to be 4" x 5 1/4". This will allow me to have a small white border on my finished cards.

For the sentiments I used the Altenew Craft Friends stamp set.  In blueprint sketch distress oxide I stamped the "You're so talented" sentiment onto some 110lb Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I then stamped the "You inspire me" sentiment from the same set in candied apple distress oxide ink.  I then trimmed the sentiment pieces using my paper trimmer and cut each sentiment strip at an angle using my EK Success cutterbee scissors.

To finish off each card I adhered the sentiment strip to the right hand side toward the bottom of the card using some 3M mounting tape to give the card some dimension.  I then used more mounting tape to adhere the completed pieces to standard top folding card bases.

To add a little extra finishing touch I added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss White in a pattern around the focal image.  Each time I added the dots I added them in threes, a large, medium and small dot.

I hope you like the finished cards! Please leave me a comment if you like this idea and please share with me if you give it a try. I would love to see what you create. Please also check out my YouTube video, give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel to see more projects from me in the future.

Have a great day!!
