Layered Die-cutting ft. Distress Oxide inks & Heat Embossing

Hello Everyone and welcome to/back to my blog! I hope that you are having a wonderful week!

This week I decided to play with my distress oxide inks and heat embossing and I love the result!

To make this card I started out my creating the layered flowers.  To do this I used the Altenew Layered Rose die set and cut out each piece of the flower twice and each leaf piece several times so I had lots to choose from for the final design. I cut them out of some Neenah Solar white card stock in 110lb version.

Once all my pieces were cut I used my distress oxide inks and applied colour to the die cuts by swiping the ink pad across the die cut.  For the flowers I used Carved Pumpkin for the base layer, Picked Raspberry for the middle layer and Candied Apple for the top layer.

I worked on one colour at a time as I didnt want the ink to dry.  Once I had coloured all of the base pieces I put them into a container of WOW! Embossing Glitter in Neutral Ultra Shimmer.  I then held each image with a pair of tweezers and heat set the embossing using my heat tool. I did the same thing for the middle and top layers of the flowers.

I repeated this process for the leaves also only I used Squeezed Lemonade for the base layer, Twisted Citron for the middle layer and Peacock Feathers for the top layer.

Once all the colouring and embossing was finished for all the layers I glued the pieces together following the guide on the packaging of the die set. I used my Tombow Mono Multi glue to adhere the pieces together and then placed each piece under an acrylic block to help keep the images flat whilst the glue dried.

Next I worked on the background for the card. I used my Distress Oxide inks again, this time in Wilted Violet, Blueprint Sketch and Mermaid Lagoon and applied the colour to my Tonic Easy Clean Mat and then sprayed the colour with water before "smooshing" a piece of Tim Holtz Watercolor cardstock onto it. I repeated this process until I had covered the whole panel and was happy with the final appearance. While this piece dried I completed a second panel in the same way.

Once dry, I took the Stained Glass Coverplate from Catherine Pooler Designs and cut out one of the background pieces. I made sure to use a metal shim with my Big Shot so that the whole panel cut out perfectly. Once I removed any of the pieces that wouldnt come out from the die cut panel, I then adhered this piece on top of the second background piece using some Tombow Mono Multi glue. Before gluing the piece in place I first played around with the placement of the die cut layer so that I got a contrast of colour when I added it.  After gluing the two background pieces together I wanted to add some shimmer.  So I sprayed the whole panel with some Perfect Pearls Mist in Perfect Pearl. (when I tried to spray from the original bottle it was clogged so I poured some into a mini mister bottle and used that instead).

Now that I finished all the elements for the card I played around with the arrangement of the flowers and leaves and then took a photo on my phone of the arrangement I liked.  I used the image to help me glue down the pieces in the order I wanted.  First I glued down the leaves using Towbow glue and them used 3M mounting tape to adhere the flowers.

For the sentiment I used a distress watercolour piece that I had on my desk (same colours as the leaves) and stamped the sentiment "You are everything to me" from the Altenew Forever and Always stamp set in some Versafine Onyx Black ink and added more of the same embossing powder I used for the flowers and leaves and heat set it.  I then cut it into a thin strip and added it just under the flowers on the card using some Tombow glue.

For a finishing touch I added some Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew around my floral spray.

I hope that you enjoyed this card and video as much as I enjoyed making them.

If you like the card please leave me a comment below! I would love to hear from you!

Have a great day,

Jodie xx
